sally hansen gel strips : review

yesterday, in the mists of running errands, grabbing last minute things i stopped over at tjmaxx (aka the best store on earth) and picked up a sally hansen mini gel nail kit. this purchase was something i debated on for about 30 minutes, but it being half off, i just went for it.
when i got home i immedatley  unpacked everything and organized it on my desk. not going to lie i absolutely love the concept, but i did not like the color i purchased. okay it looks like such a beautiful color, just about comparable to essie ballet flats, but alas i was wrong. i put a strip on and noticed its sheer pink color, i just shrugged it off and thought the color would become more intense after the backlight. so i applied the strip on my thumb and as the directions said, i removed all the access strip and fit it to my nail. after this i applied the gel polish, a light coat and plugged in the backlight and hit the center button and waited thirty seconds until it shut off. i pulled out my nail and it was even more opaque! i knew i needed my nails done for tonight and it took too long to have regular nail polish. so i went to the store and purchased a new color. (of corse)
i purchased quite the opposite color, bat on the black; this color is very much comparable to essie's wicked, but even better, opi's lincoln park after dark (my fall favorite!). this color is amazing, but the only thing is it looks like a purplish tint in some lights (which is what i wanted) and black in others. now honestly i dont know wether to call this color black or intense violet, i know the name is pat on the black, but it could be either or. also on the package it displays a purplish shine to it. another thing that dissapointed me is that the color on the package is not identical to the color of the actual strips.  but overall i absolutely loved it, loved how fast it was and how they last up to two weeks.

items included :
a charger/plug for your blacklight dryer, a mini blacklight dryer, two packs of sixteen nail strips, a filer and a cuticle stick, two nail cleanser pads & a gel topcoat.

drug store mini haul

lately, i have been putting the breaks on shopping. (yes i know this is a huge shocker to all, including myself!) but today i allowed myself to go to cvs not only to pick up some new and fabulous magazines but to also purchase a few items that i have been needing and that i have wanted to try.
   pictured above :

01 - scunci clips : i have been in need of these clips so badly!! i have endless bobby pins and too many barrett clips, but since i left all my bow in DC (i know i cried too....) i have decided to pull my hair back in one of these no slip, tight grip clips.
colors : brown, clear, black

02 - maybelline dream matte mousse : this product i have been urging to try for the past couple of weeks now. i have seen some youtubers use this product, and decided to try it out for myself. i ended up using it tonight, and ohmygawd you guys i fell head over tory burch heels for this! my new favorite foundation, love the color and the smell!
color : light (2)
03 - maybelline 24 hr color tattoo metal : so i have used one of these before, and thought i would love it. yes i did love the product, just not the color i selected... i mean i do still wear that one (it was taupe) but this one had me for sure (sorry you can't see it from the photo) but it is a beautiful champaign shimmer shadow, that makes your eyelids look stunning!
color : 70 barely branded

04 - sally hansen insta dry nail polish : this is my absolute favorite top coat in the world!! if you know me personally, you know i am so impatient, and a slight perfectionist. so with a perfect manicure i need the perfect quick dry top coat to make everything perfect. i lalalalove this so much!!
color : 110 clearly quick

05 - not your mothers beach babe texturizing cream : if that wasn't a mouthful, let me give you one on this product! this product is a mermaids hair in a tube. i thought that my bumble and bumble sea spray was out of the ocean, i was confirmed to be wrong after i squeezed out some of this product! it smells delicious, just like summer!! perfect for a lazy summer hair day, sign me up!!

mothers day gift ideas

five more days until im reunited with my family, i am counting down the days until i can sit back and relax with my mom, dad and my sister. being away from school for so long has set me back on time with my family, which is a bummer! fortunately for them i will be home within a blink of an eye.

i get home friday, and have a family event on saturday, then on sunday is the all famous hallmark holiday known as mothers day! this year i have asked my mom what she wanted, instead of me using my creative mind and getting her what i like, which hasn't worked out... so this year i asked her, and she finally gave me a list (seen below). so many choices, why not get all?

1. { Tory Burch 'Amanda' Flat Tan Leather Thong
2. { Coco Mademoiselle Eau Ds Parfum Classic Bottle Spray }
3. { Kate Spade New York Millionaire Quote iPhone 5 Case }
4. { Essie Nail Color Polish, Hip-Anema }
5. { Tory Burch Neon Snake Zip Continental }
6. {Vera Bradley Pretty Flower Pot & Vera Bradley Gardening Gloves }

rouge à lèvres

Elizabeth Taylor was right,
lipstick does make life so much better!

Let's put it this way, if I was stuck on a desert island with only 3 possessions I would bring: food, water, and lipstick! A couple of years ago I discovered lipstick. It used to be the intimidating red makeup that I knew I could never pull off! But then I decided to be daring and try it! As a scanned the makeup isle, I learned that lipstick did not just come in bold reds, but in nudes, pinks, corals, and even blue (however I would not recommend it). My first lipstick was a inexpensive tube of coral and I fell in love instantly! Soon enough I was buying all the shades they had to offer and I felt naked leaving the house without it!

But there will always be the age old question:

"To match my lipstick and nail polish or not to match my lipstick and nail polish? That is the question."

However, while on Pinterest, I found a great great guide to matching lipstick and nail polish. I am obsessed with the combinations and can't wait to try them out!

Always, Miss C

tuetorials : nailed it

they say birds of a feather fly together, well i think i can nail this saying down. so i was browsing along pintrest when all of a sudden a nail tutorial popped out at me! i saw it, fell in love and knew it was my next nail trend. this tuetorial is perfect for today and for the winter. here are some pictures to try and help guide you along!! hope you love it as much as i do!

materials needed:

step 1 :
 take off any excess nail polish you might have had on with the nail polish remover and with the cotton swabs. psstt it helps to let your nails soak in the nail polish remover ;)

 step 2 :
next paint your nails with any color of your choice. for today i chose essie's school of hard rocks which is a beautiful slate/moss green color. let the first coat set for 3 minutes then paint a second coat on top of the first.

 step 3 :
after allowing your nails to dry get your feather out from where ever you had bought your feather, mine is from etsy! then place the feather to your nail and leave some excess feather on the bottom to help shape it more easily to your nail. then apply top coat.

step 4 :
after waiting for the top coat to dry, take either your scissors or your nail cutters and cut off the tip of the feather to align with your nail.

step 5 :
this step is totes optional, but it looks fabulous. get out a pencil and three other matchingish nail polishes and start dotting all over, look below to see the final product!

step 6 :

spring into some new nail polish

Spring is right around the corner and surprisingly in New York, it feels as if spring has already hit! With the new season coming the new trends are flying in! One of my favorite things about the changing of the seasons is that nail polish companies make new lines and design new colors. If you know me, you know that I love nail polish, I rarely ever have no nail polish on and that I also love changing up my nail polish colors daily. This spring the colors that are blossoming out are beautiful, but very different. Today I brought together three different nail polish brands (which i use the most) to show you what they look like.
Butter London is one of my new favorite brand of nail polishes. I own two of the colors from the spring '12 collection, and I love both of them! The colors that I have shown above are: Bossy Boots (light, opaque pistachio green. a beautiful take on neutral for this season), Slapper (s truly teal lacquer, bold and very bright.), Disco Biscuit (tropical hot pink with an undercurrent of tiny iridescent glitter particles.), Trout Pout (an opaque shade of cantaloupe, pale and retro.) and Knackered (a sheer, twinkling oyster shade flecked with micro glitter particles.) *Noted: the colors that I have up here makes up the whole collection!*

OPI is another one of my top pick nail polish's. OPI came out with their new spring line called Holland, and although I love it, I do not own any yet. The colors that I have shown above are: Thanks a Wind Million (a light sea green creme), Kiss Me on My Tulips (a hot pink creme), Vampsterdam (a deep plum with a silver frost running throughout it), I Have a Herring Problem (a dusty medium blue with gold and silver shimmer), and Did You 'ear About Van Gogh? (a light beige creme) *Noted: the colors that I have up here are just a few of the whole collection!*

Essie is beyond my all time favorite nail polish brand in the world. I love the testure and the various colors and the bottles (yes i love them too). I think that their spring collection is my favorite out of all of them. The colors that I have shown above are: navigate her (a light, bright green), orange it's obvious (a bright orange), olé caliente (a red-orange with a pink undertone), a crewed interest (a luminous peach shade), to buy or not to buy (a lavender with shimmer)  *Noted: the colors that I have up here are just a few of the whole collection!*
